Only a day between ordering and receiving! Is this great service, or what?? Only problem with these super comfy hikers is the fact that they are greenish - not grey, which is what I ordered and was expectin. But it's only the slightest tinge, so since I am now wearing them and quite reluctant to take them off, I'll just keep them. I'm not much of a hiker, but I do get to the Scottish Highlands now and then, and we all know everyone up there is always out and about. I'm the oldest in my family now, so everyone indulges me. Can't wait to show off these good-looking shoes!! My wee granddaughter will be wanting them! (I wear a US 8 M, and that's what I ordered - they fit me perfectly.)Can a hiking shoe be sexy? Well, if they can, this one is.Also, I hiked 9 miles in it the first day with no problems, with varied terrain and elevation. The arch was a little low for me so I fixed that with an insert. Hikes 2 and 3 (6 and 8 miles) went equally well. Rained the entire time on my last hike and my feet stayed dry despite also crossing multiple shallow streams.But damn, these shoes are sexy.I never hike, but I bought these shoes for a recent trip to Lake Tahoe, California and for all the hiking we had planned. They were perfect right out of the box. I ordered another pair in advance from Backcountry based on my normal shoe size 6.5 but they were too big so Amazon to the rescue of a size 6 right before we left. I did not break them in or anything and had no issues with the shoes at all. They were extremely comfortable for the several hikes we did at high elevation. We did a 2.5 mile hike day one and then a 4 mile hike day three. I would wear these shoes everyday if they were more stylish for running errands.I am a long time Salomon GTX sneaker wearer, a must for snow and mud months- this might be my 4th pair, but my first pair of Vayas. They felt great from day 1 and I get compliments on the cantaloupe colored toes sticking out from my jeans.The down side is that they appear and feel like they are wearing out way too fast. I think I am only going to get 1 season out of them before they are demoted to lawn mowing shoes.My advice: buy them, but only if on sale!I wore these shoes straight out of the box. I went on a hike of about six miles and found them to be super cute, supportive and very comfortable. I don't know about the water proof ability since it wasn't tested on this hike. I have an average width foot. I wear a size 8 and ordered a size 8. They fit perfectly with a medium thickness hiking sock.An addition to this review, I have since worn these shoes during a rainstorm in Philadelphia, everything else was wet but my feet stayed dry. Definitely waterproof. ??I purchased an 8 1/2 which is my usual size and it’s just too big. I tried it with thicker socks but even with laces tied tighter which then bothers my ankle, there is still too much room for my foot/ankle to move around. I would be using these in spring/summer/fall times so trying multiple pairs of socks or super thick ones is not an option as it would be too hot and gross.I haven’t bought a pair of hiking shoes for a long time b’c they were generally on the heavy side and also I have arch problems, which means most shoes don’t work for me. Decided to give these a try based an a few online recommendations. These shoes have good support. They are also light weight and comfortable. I was climbing wet rocks along the river on two recent hiking trips. They have excellent grip.Well well well , finally Salomon came up with a shoe just as nice as the original gtxThey are perfect the shoe box is perfect, Not too tight across the top. Waterproof,yes!If only the hiking shoe came in the blue like the boot or black . My work wants us to wear black or brown . But I get away with the blue .Bought the same shoe in the boot . Love !!Finally got to toss 3 pair of my original gtxAnd 2 pair that that they tried to pass for them . Thank you Salmon. Almost gave up on you .These shoes are incredible! Got them in my regular size 8. Fit was great. You can wear a thin sock or a wool sock in the winter. There is a bit of extra room. They also felt wide enough. I didn’t have time to wear them around before going out to hike in Alberta. I put them straight into my suitcase from the box and went on my trip. Super risky! But once I got there, I put them on and wore them walking for 10 hours straight. No problems. Feet stayed dry. Didn’t feel hot or tired. No rubbing. It was incredible. They are light weight so it really felt like I was wearing my Nike - only better for traction and my ankles felt supported.
